Wells

QUAKE IMPACTS

The effects of the multiple earthquakes in 2010/11 on Canterbury’s underground water resources include damage to many wells and, in some areas, major changes to water quality and flow rates. Wells that previously provided trouble-free water may now be compromised with liquefaction, sands and gravels, or may have suffered structural damage.

Furthermore, since the Canterbury earthquakes, the depths where we can access water have changed in some areas. Now our well drillers may need to go deeper than in the past, to find usable water.

NEW WELLS

Canterbury Groundwater will organise all the necessary process for drilling a new well on your property. This may include site visits to discuss siting the well in relation to the proposed house and other structures, power and driveways. If you prefer, we can take care of your consent application for the new well.

WELL TESTING

Static water level, yield, and drawdown are critical factors of any well in determining an appropriate pump system. We provide this data with all new wells as a mandatory requirement of Environment Canterbury Regional Council.

Pre-existing wells can also be tested with our portable generator and test pump.

REDEVELOPING EXISTING WELLS

If you have problems with flow and water quality, one option could be to redevelop your existing well. The first option is to introduce compressed air into the well to clear any blockages and sediment build-ups.
